Greetings Nastawgan Trails members and supporters. 2024 has been a busy year and our 200 kilometres of trails are in good shape. Thanks to the volunteers from across Ontario that did the trail clearing work. Together we did 1431 hours of trail clearing. And a big thank you to Charles our first hired trail worker. This is a quote from Sindy Dupuy of Montreal who with her partner Nicolas hiked the O.T.H Trail from Thorne to Friday Lake in October. " Thanks a lot for all your work on trails. This space is just magical. Wild and wonderful. The best trail I have ever walked in Canada." We are also very grateful for all you who support Nastawgan Trails financially . In 2024 we spent approximately 22 thousand dollars.
Our 20th annual spring hike had 9 participants and took 9 and a half days. For the 3rd year in a row we had great weather. There were about 40 day hikes through out the year with around 100 participants. Some people we see once a year and others many times. Anyone can join the email list and pick which hikes they wish to join. Next year the Matabitchuan powerhouse is being taken down and replaced. So for over a year the Matabitchuan river will be in it's original riverbed. Hikers will be able to pass through the construction site but there may be delays. Deborah continues to keep Nastawgan Facebook page updated. Earl works at communications, book keeping, banking and map updates. Jody keeps the almost weekly hike notices coming your way. I am hoping for a winter that is cool enough for some great non slushy snowshoeing.
Merry Christmas and happy trails to you in 2025.
