"Our 21 day canoe trip became a 8 day trip. Chased out of Wabakimi. Canoes left on an island we hope remains unburned. Three vehicles parked at Mattice Lake Outfitters just south of Armstrong. Two appear unburned. Highway to Armstrong still closed. Spent one night surrounded by fire on a rocky point I have named Salvation Point."
Greetings Nastawgan Members and Hikers
Each year Murray goes on 3 X 1 week long trail clearing trips to the more remote sections of the Ottawa Temiskaming Highland Trail and invite folks to join him. There will be one in August, one in September and one in October of 2026. Usually two of the trips are started by canoeing to one or two base camps. We have had trail clearing people come from Ottawa, Toronto, etc. If you would like to join on all or part of a trip the dates can be flexible to suit you. Canoes, paddles and trail clearing equipment can all be provided.
A Personal Note From Murray
Fellow hikers seeking information on the O.T.H Trail, area access roads, Nastawgan Trails, and other trails and events, please call me at 705-648-3310. I have hiked the trail more than anyone and I am glad to talk with you. I find talking much more efficient than texting or emailing. Our society has gone backwards in communication as far as I'm concerned.
